Where to Put Patches: Hats, Jackets, Jeans & Backpacks

Not sure where your new patch should go? Here are popular placements that look great and hold up well.

Hats

The front panel of a cap is the classic spot for a team logo. Small 2–3" patches fit most caps best. For a custom look, try a small patch on the side panel or the back strap area. Browse MLB patches and NHL patches for hat-sized logos.

Denim jackets and vests

Jean jackets are made for patches. Put a large 4" patch in the middle of the back, then add smaller patches on the chest and sleeves. Mixing teams, cities and logos is how fans build one-of-a-kind game-day jackets.

Jeans

A patch on the thigh, back pocket or just above the knee adds personality, and it also covers a worn spot or a small tear.

Backpacks and bags

Front pockets and flaps are easy places to iron onto. Canvas bags work best. For nylon backpacks, sew the patch on instead of ironing.

Other ideas

  • Hoodies and sweatshirts (chest or sleeve)
  • Tote bags and blankets for tailgating
  • Craft projects like stockings, gnome hats and pillows
